We invite you to Tzavta – our monthly cultural dinner and salon spotlighting the creative drivers behind the scenes who make art happen.

 

The inspiration is (of course) bread, what binds it all together: seemingly simple, often unnoticed, always satisfying. Bread also encompasses hard work, diligence, persistence, humility and simplicity; all true, but also hides the complexity and skill involved in making it. These qualities, inherent to both bread making and art making, form the inspiration behind each of our monthly talks. The meal for the conversation is curated as well, inspired by the topic of the evening and the speaker’s influence, history and taste.

TALK TWO

The February Salon features Doug Haslam, the head installer for the Esker Foundation Art Gallery and an accomplished local artist. The Esker brought to Calgary some of the most interesting, physically complex, visually stunning and thematically challenging art installations. Doug posses the skill set and ingenuity of MacGyver, Bob the Builder with the sensitivity and the intelligence of an active artist.

Moderated by Aeryn Twidle, who holds the position of marketing and operations in the Esker, the conversation will detail stories of how the works were installed and delve into more of a philosophical discussion about ideas versus finished work and where the art truly lies.

As Doug is 7th generation Canadian and 5th generation Calgarian, we created a Canadian themed meal for the evening. The menu is below.

This salon will be smaller and intimate and will take place at the bakery sitting area. We only have 35 tickets. Audience participation is welcomed, as it will take a more conversational format.
