Salon Series

HARD SCIENCE. HARD LIQUOR. HARDCORE DANCING.

Hey Everyone,

We are excited to start 2024 with a new (additional) Salon series. A collaboration with  NSERC Prairie Chair for Women in Science and Engineering and Park by Sidewalk we are celebrating science, knowledge, networking and space to burn the dance floor.

Welcome to Chardonnay with a Cube of Ice, the badass sister of Tzavta, a bi-monthly series featuring women scientists presenting cutting-edge research followed by a DJ dance party. Cheap booze, spicy food, and yes, we will throw a cube of ice in your glass of wine if your heart desires!

We are honoured to welcome our inaugural scientist Dr. Shohini Ghose, professor of Physics and Computer Science and NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering; Director of Research and Programs, Centre for Women in Science (WinS); Chief Technology Officer, Quantum Algorithms Institute (see bio below). Dr. Ghose will guide us through quantum wonderland! The journey will include highlights of the strange quantum world, an exploration of quantum computing, teleportation and the quantum internet, and some tips to prepare for the quantum future.

Ticket price includes talk, food and dance.  Tickets are limited, to join the waitlist, email me at michal@sidewalkcitizenbakery.com

Dr. Shohini Ghose

As a girl, Shohini Ghose wanted to be an explorer like Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to go to space. She hasn’t made it to space yet, but she did become an explorer of the quantum world as a physics Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada. She examines how quantum physics can transform computing and communication and be used for novel tasks such as teleportation. Shohini aims to create an inclusive scientific community in Canada as the Director of the Laurier Centre for Women in Science (WinS) and as the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering in Ontario. She holds a TED Senior Fellowship and her online talks have received over 5 million views. In 2017, she was selected to the College of the Royal Society of Canada. Shohini's new book,  Her Space, Her Time, celebrates women from around the world who transformed physics and astronomy. She still dreams of going to space.
